The Pelle Villa, listed among cultural monuments of Prague, is a sample of Neo-Renaissance architecture. Unfortunately, the second half of the 20th century saw a kindergarten housed in the building, whose operational and functional demands have taken its toll of the building’s condition. In 2001, the Prague 6 District Council approved a reconstruction project for the building to turn it into a gallery. The reconstruction in particular renewed the halls of the building, turned the attic into exhibition space and redesigned interiors. Also refurbished was the garden. Following completion of the repairs, Gallery Anderle opened in the villa in 2003. The gallery displays unique collections of African folk statues and ritual items, along large-format canvases and prints by Jiri Anderle.
